Angela Naeth and Tyler Butterfield both take 2nd at IronMan 70.3 Boulder
Celebrating in both the men's and women's fields, Tyler Butterfield and Angela Naeth brought home impressive second place finishes at the inaugural Rohto IronMan 70.3 Boulder triathlon this past weekend.
Coming out of the water a full minute ahead of the main pack, Butterfield set out to have a strong showing in his hometown of Boulder, CO. Taking off on the bike, Butterfield held his lead on the main pack and continued to put time in on the two leaders ahead of him. Kicking it up another notch in the run, Butterfield quickly closed in on the leaders within the first lap. Continuing to gain ground on the second lap, Butterfield moved into second place. Holding off any chasers and taking the fastest run split of the day, Butterfield finished with a strong second place finish and over two minutes ahead of third place.
In the women's race, Angela Naeth exited the water with a small group, not far behind the leaders. A quick transition helped Naeth to set a fast pace on the bike and make up time on the leaders. Gaining ground, Naeth continued to ride hard. Entering the run, Naeth put her head down and dug deep to pick up the pace even more. Concentrating on one foot in front of the other, Naeth crossed with a strong second place finish.
Naeth now travels to New Hampshire for IronMan Timberman 70.3, held at Lake Winnipesaukee, while Butterfield will be leaving for Hawaii shortly in preparation for the World Championships held on October 9th.
