Heather Wurtele takes 8th at Ironman World Championships
The morning started off with clear skies and calm waters after days prior of rain and rough swimming conditions. Leading all the athletes out of the water with a 49:44 swim was Andy Potts. The first women were not far behind and Heather Wurtele entered T1 strong while she made quick time of getting on her bike. As Heather headed out on Queen K, she sat in 6th place, ahead of Chrissie Wellington and Mirinda Carfrae, with Julie Dibbens leading the women.
Maintaining her strong pace on the bike, Heather chased Julie at a distance in the now hot sunny conditions. Going into T2, Heather was still feeling good and pushed on through the heat in the run. As the conditions were only getting hotter, Julie began to fade on the run as her pre-existing foot injury got worse. Meanwhile Chrissie chased history and Mirinda chased Chrissie. Heather power on through for a strong run and took 8th overall with a finish of 9:17:56.
Heather Wurtele was powering through on her Rolf Prima TdF58SL Powertap set in Kona.
